The Curatorial Department is always busy and will be even busier over the next few months developing exciting new displays.  Two of these involve the chassis of British cars, namely a 1946 Humber Snipe and 1970 Triumph Spitfire.  The chassis is the frame onto which a car’s body would traditionally be mounted, together with the power train (engine, gearbox etc.)  For many years manufacturers have used unit body construction methods which dispense with a chassis and rely on the entire body structure for strength.  Citroën, always innovative and forward thinking, used unit body construction in mass production as long ago as the 1930s.  The displays are due for completion at the end of January 2017.
