Sir Stirling Moss OBE retires (again)
At the age of 88 Sir Stirling Moss OBE has decided to retire from public life. Moss’ glowing career began in 1948 and involved an impressive 529 races including 16 Formula 1 wins.
An accident in 1962 at Goodwood left Moss seriously injured and resulted in his decision to retire from professional competition. In reality, however, this was far from Moss leaving racing altogether and he continued to drive for some years after this, finally bowing out in 2011 saying “I love racing, but now it is time to stop.” He nevertheless continued to make public appearances.
Moss has been honoured on many occasions including being inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990 and receiving a Knighthood in 2000.
Sir Moss has had an association with our collection for many years having kindly opened our Hall of Motorsport in 1997 and also appearing in our current Souvenir Guide.
We wish Stirling and his family all the very best for the future.
