Engineer and ‘Godfather of the Ford GT40’ Roy Lunn died on the 5^th August 2017 at the age of 92. 

Lunn enjoyed a very successful career working for AC Cars, Aston Martin and Jowett Cars before moving to the US to work at Ford Central Advanced Engineering where he oversaw the creation of the amazing GT40 and prototyped the ever-popular Mustang.  A subsequent move to Jeep (which had recently been acquired by American Motors Corp.) saw Lunn working on Jeep’s Cherokee and AMC’s Eagle, the latter blazing a trail for what was to become the ubiquitous SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle).

In his later career as Vice President of Engineering at AM General, the unstoppable Lunn was involved with the introduction of the Humvee (or High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) for the US Army.  Lunn was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2016.
