More than just an educational tour when visiting the Museum
Dressing up in period costume has proved to be a popular part of education visits to the Museum. Initially costumes were made for pre-school and Key Stage 1 children, but due to its success this has now been extended, with Education Officer Caroline Coombes working on creating additional period costumes for older children. Dressing up as Edwardian school children with girls in long dresses, aprons and mop caps, boys in waistcoats and flat caps, and even their teacher in a long-flowing driving coat and picture-hat kept in place with a long scarf adds to the experience. Putting all of this together and actually being able to sit in the first School bus which was used in Somerset in the early 1900’s and you have really brought history alive!
