The Education Centre welcomes a group of students who travelled from Newport in South Wales
Twenty-five students arrived with their tutors and spent their time having a conducted tour of the Museum including a tour of the vehicle workshops where they met with Workshop Manager Bradley Mauger. Whilst visiting the Workshop they were able to see the Museum’s Jaguar XJ220 which was undergoing a major service which when finished will have cost in the region of around £17,000. They saw the car, minus the engine; gearbox and fuel tank and Bradley talked them through the restoration process. On completion, the car will return to display in the Museum. They also visited the Restoration Centre where they looked at vehicles undergoing restoration, including the Museum’s Aston Martin DB4, and a Ferrari which was undergoing repair to the bodywork prior to re-painting. Bradley told them that it will cost in excess of £70,000 to restore, but would possibly be worth around £250,000 when completed.
The Education Centre is always keen to welcome groups of young mechanics and workshop tours can be arranged as part of the educational programme although students will not always get to see such a stunning line-up of cars, there is usually something spectacular to view.
