‘The American Dream’
Two new displays have arrived. The first is ‘The 1930s: Duesys, Deco and Depression’ which focuses on three vehicles from this decade: 1931 Duesenberg Model J Tourster by Derham, 1936 Auburn 852 Speedster (Supercharged) and the 1936 Cord 810 Beverley (Supercharged). The display focuses not only on the cars, but the artistic movement, news and people of that decade.
The second relates to four vehicles, which represents a significant change to HIMM’s approach to creating displays. Each vehicle – the 1942 Willys Jeep, 1968 Pontiac Bonneville Fire Service Ambulance, 1915 Model T Ford and the 1981 De Lorean DMC 12, now has its own large, striking graphic backdrop and AV projection which conjure the thrill of driving them on and off the road. The vehicles themselves were filmed being driven by Museum Volunteers and show that the Museum is in motion. Archive footage including period advertising for the DMC 12 is great, and sometimes amusing, to see.
