Looking After the Collection

We are continually evolving, making it crucial to continue to improve how we maintain and care for each item for our visitors to enjoy both now and in the future. The approach to caring for the Collection varies for each vehicle, but we ensure that all vehicles are regularly dusted and polished and undergo annual condition reports to prevent deterioration.

We use a variety of methods to prevent deterioration of the Collection, addressing factors such as relative humidity, temperature, light (including ultraviolet and infrared), and insect pests. Our Collections team, along with dedicated volunteers, closely monitor the environmental conditions both in the Museum and in storage.

We carry out annual condition checks that comprehensively assess the state of each vehicle. Monthly, we check pest traps and monitor relative humidity and light levels. These checks help us identify any changes that need attention so we can continue to develop how we care for our Collection.

Volunteers play a key role in looking after our Collection and it owes much of its excellent condition to their invaluable help. They follow a structured cleaning regime, ensuring that all cars are regularly polished and dusted, and none are overlooked.
